Ken McBrien MRCVS
Ken graduated from Edinburgh University in 1985. He began his Veterinary career by working in Cumbria and then the Cotswolds before joining the Brownlow Veterinary Group in 1990. He was then based at the Border Vet Centre in Willow street Oswestry. Ken soon became a partner in the group and in 1997 he and John opened the new building here in Maesbury Road.
Ken specialises in small animals and performs the orthopaedic surgery at the Border practice.
In his spare time he enjoys cycling, golf and is also a keen skier.
Kathryn Foy MRCVS
Kathryn studied at the Royal Veterinary College, London. Graduating in 2009, she joined the Brownlow group in January 2010, first at the Ellesmere branch and then moving to the Border and Castle practices.
She now divides her time between the Border and Castle practices. She enjoys surgery, regularly assisting Ken with orthopaedic operations. Kathryn is also skilled with the ultrasound scanning machine, which is used frequently for diagnostic examinations.
Like most of the staff here at the Brownlow Group Kathryn has a rescue cat. He was a stray with a broken leg that came into the practice and was lucky enough to be fixed and be taken home by Kathryn.
James Merrington MRCVS
James qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2014 and joined the Border branch of the Brownlow Veterinary Group soon after qualifying. His particular interests are Medicine and Surgery.
James has a rescue dog called Buddy who he enjoys walking, a rescue kitten called Chunk and his other hobbies include playing the guitar, cooking, photography and rowing when he has the opportunity.
Jayne is one of our longest serving members of staff. She is the hub of reception and looks after the daily running of the practice. If Jayne doesnt know then no one does!
She has a gorgeous long haired cat named Archie.
Mary Hargest RVN
Mary joined the Border practice whilst first in training in 2003. She liked it so much she decided to stay and started full time in 2007. She qualified with a Foundation degree in Veterinary Nursing in 2008, to which she has recently added a certificate in Emergency and Critical Care.
Mary is a qualified A1 instructor and she looks after the Harper Adams students that come to the Border practice on placement.
To add to her busy role she also controls all the stock and manages Insurance claims.
Mary has two malamutes and two rescue cats and a Siamese cat.
Amy Williams RVN
Amy qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2013 from Harper Adams University.
Amy gained her work experience during the course at the Border practice. She did so well that the partners invited her back full time!
Amy arranges and runs the Puppy Parties with Nursing Assistant Gloria that are held at the Border practice.

Megan is a local girl who loves anything Disney! She has recently completed her final Nursing exams at Harper Adams University and has now gained a full time place here at the Border Practice. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and catching the latest movies at the cinema.
Gloria Edwards VCA, Anaesthetic Assistant.
Gloria spent many years in the pharmaceutical industry as a Quality Auditor before deciding to retrain in the Veterinary world. She did most of her Veterinary Care Assistant training at the Brownlow and Castle surgeries voluntarily, before being offered a permanent position at the Border practice.
She has recently completed a training course to become a qualified Anaesthetic Assistant.
Gloria spends her spare time with her husband, children, 4 ponies, two cats, two chickens and a Fox Red Labrador.
Joined the Border practice in 2015 to cover maternity leave. When Ceri returned we decided to keep her! She is a happy member of staff and always willing to help ease the clients with her cheery smile!
Ceri is a part time receptionist and Nursing Assistant here at the Border Practice.
She has recently returned from maternity leave and her hobbies are baking, shopping, looking after son and walking her two dogs.
